How fast do you type? Find out in 30 seconds. Type the text on the screen and watch your words per minute and your accuracy as you go.

Want to get faster? Practice mode takes you from the home row up to numbers and sentences, one level at a time. There is a Kids mode with big letters, too.

How to play

  1. Open the game and choose Speed test, Practice or Kids.
  2. For a speed test, pick 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, or one fixed Passage.
  3. Start typing. The clock starts on your first key. Your speed, accuracy and time update as you go.
  4. Slips show on the letter. Press Backspace to fix one, or Ctrl or Alt with Backspace to remove a whole word.
  5. When time is up you get a result card with your WPM, accuracy, correct and wrong characters, your best, and a chart of your speed.
  6. On a phone, tap the text to bring up the keyboard. Press Esc to pause.

Is the typing test free, and do I need to download anything?

Yes, it is free. The typing test runs right in your web browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads on the site. Just open the page and start.

Can I take the test on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap the text and your on-screen keyboard opens. A computer keyboard works too, and Backspace fixes a slip.

How is my WPM worked out?

The game counts the characters that are correct, divides by 5 to get words, and divides by the minutes. Accuracy is the keys that matched when you pressed them out of all keys, so a slip you fix still counts.

What are Practice and Kids modes?

Practice has 8 levels, from the home row to numbers and sentences. Score 90% to open the next level and earn 1 to 3 stars. Kids shows big letters to find and press, and a wrong key never moves on.
