Tiles: a free word tile game online
Tiles is a word tile game you can play free in your browser. You get seven lettered tiles, spell words on the board, and try to out-score a rival over ten turns each.
The colored squares are where the points hide. Put a high letter on a lucky square, or stretch a word across a bonus, and your score jumps. Every word you make has to be a real word, so it is a good one for people who love vocabulary.

How to play
- Your first word must cross the gold star in the middle of the board.
- Choose a tile from your rack with B (or the B key). The chosen tile lifts and glows gold.
- Move the gold cursor with the arrows and press A to drop the tile on that square. The cursor walks on in the direction your word is going.
- After the first word, every word must touch a tile already on the board. Every word you create, down as well as across, has to be in the dictionary or the play is refused.
- Press START (the Enter key) to play the word. SELECT (the Escape key) takes back every tile you placed this turn.
Keyboard: arrows, A and B. Phone: the on-screen pad.
Tips
- Red 3W triples the whole word and pink 2W doubles it. Dark blue 3L triples one letter and light blue 2L doubles it.
- A square only pays on the turn you cover it, so use the bonus squares while they are free.
- Use all seven tiles in one turn for a 40 point bonus.
- Stuck with a bad rack? Press START with nothing placed to swap all seven tiles. It costs you the turn.

Is Tiles free, and do I need to download anything?
Yes, it is free. Tiles plays right in your web browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads on the site. Just open the page and start.
Can I play Tiles on my phone or tablet?
Yes. On a phone or tablet, an on-screen pad with arrows and A and B buttons shows up under the game. On a computer, use the arrow keys and the A and B keys.
How many turns are there?
Ten turns each. Whoever has the higher score at the end wins.
What happens if I make a word that is not in the dictionary?
The play is refused and your tiles stay put, so you can try something else.
Do the premium squares count more than once?
No. A premium square only pays on the turn you cover it.
