Dots and Boxes is a game many of us played on paper. Take turns drawing a line between two dots. When you draw the fourth side of a box, it is yours.

Pick a 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 grid. Play the computer on Easy, Normal or Hard, or share one screen with a friend. Easy is a gentle place to start.

How to play

  1. Open the game and pick a grid: 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5. Then choose Easy, Normal, Hard or 2 Players.
  2. Tap near a line between two dots to draw it. On a computer, hover over a line to see it first.
  3. Take turns. Each turn is one line.
  4. Draw the fourth side of a box and it gets your color. Then you go again.
  5. One line can close two boxes at once. You get both.
  6. When every box is taken, the game ends. Whoever has more boxes wins. Tap Undo, or press U, to take a line back.

Yes. Tap near the line you want to draw. On a computer, use the mouse, or the arrow keys with Enter or Space.

Yes. Choose 2 Players and take turns on one screen, Blue against Orange.

How hard is the computer?

On Easy it often misses a box and may draw a third side, so a beginner can win. Normal takes every box and avoids giving boxes away. Hard plays the end of the game very carefully.
