Tangram Shapes is a shape puzzle with seven flat pieces: triangles, a square and a slanted piece. A dark silhouette is waiting, and you fit all seven pieces inside it to fill it up.

Pieces can be turned, and the slanted one can flip over too. There are 60 shapes, and each one can be solved. The first levels place a few pieces for you, then leave more and more to you. There is no game over.

How to play

  1. Open the game and start at level 1. Solve a level to open the next one.
  2. Drag a piece from the tray onto the dark shape.
  3. Tap a piece to turn it a little each time. Keep tapping the slanted piece and it also flips to its mirror image, so it can fit either way.
  4. A piece clicks into place when it fits. Any way of filling the shape works, not just one. A piece that would leave the shape impossible to finish does not click in.
  5. Stuck? Tap Hint to see an outline of where a piece goes, and the piece glows. Undo takes back your last placed piece.
  6. Fill the whole shape to win. Your game saves as you go. On a keyboard, press Space to pick a piece, the arrows to move it, R to turn it and Enter to drop it.

Is Tangram free, and do I need to download anything?

Yes, it is free. Tangram Shapes plays right in your web browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads on the site. Just open the page and start.

Can I play on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Drag a piece with your finger and tap it to turn it. On a computer, use the mouse, or Space, the arrows and R.

Can I get stuck or lose?

No. Every shape has been checked to be solvable, and there is no game over. A piece that would make the shape impossible to finish does not click in, and Undo is always there.

How do stars work?

Finish a level with no hints for three stars. One or two hints earn two stars, and more than that earns one.
