How fast can you react? Tap to start. A lamp turns red, and after a random wait it turns green. Tap as soon as you see green, and your time shows in milliseconds.

Five taps make your average, and you win a level by beating its target. Level 1, Warm up, has a target of 600 ms, and the targets get tighter up to Champion at 295 ms. It is a game, and times vary by device and screen, so compare your scores on the same device.

How to play

  1. Open the game and start with level 1, Warm up. Win a level to open the next.
  2. Tap the lamp, or press Space or Enter, to begin a try. The lamp turns red. Wait.
  3. When it turns green, tap as fast as you can. Your time shows on the screen.
  4. Tap too early and it is a foul. A tap less than 100 ms after green counts as a foul too, since that can only be a guess. No tap within 1.5 seconds counts as 1500 ms.
  5. From level 4, yellow tricks flash. A tap on yellow is a foul too, so wait for green.
  6. After five taps you see your average and a rating. Beat the target to win, but three fouls end the round. A chart shows your past averages. Esc or P pauses.

Questions

Is the reaction time test free, and do I need to download anything?

Yes, it is free. The test plays right in your web browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads on the site. Just open the page and start.

Can I take the test on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap the lamp with your finger. On a computer, click it, or press Space or Enter.

Why do my times change from one device to another?

Times vary by device and screen. Screens, mice, touch screens and browsers each add a small delay of their own. The game starts its clock when green is on the screen, but it cannot take away the delay of your device. For a fair comparison, use the same device each time.

Can I lose?

Yes, but gently. Three fouls end the round, and so does a five-tap average over the level's target. You can try the level again as often as you like.
