Want to play Minesweeper? Open the page and the board is ready. Clear the squares, use the numbers to work out where the mines are, and flag the ones you find.

Your first tap is always safe. By default, the boards are dealt so that you can solve them with logic alone, with no guessing.

How to play

  1. Open the game and pick Beginner, Intermediate, Expert or Custom.
  2. Tap or click a square to dig. Your first tap is always safe and opens up an area.
  3. A number tells you how many mines touch that square.
  4. Flag a square you think is a mine. Right-click, or press and hold on a phone. You can also switch the Dig and Flag button.
  5. When a number has all its flags, tap it to open the squares around it.
  6. Clear every square that has no mine to win.

Is Minesweeper free, and do I need to download anything?

Yes, it is free. Minesweeper plays right in your web browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads on the site. Just open the page and start.

Can I play Minesweeper on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap to dig and press and hold to flag, or use the Dig and Flag button. On a big board, a Zoom button helps, and the board scrolls inside itself.

Do I ever have to guess?

Not unless you want to. No guessing is on by default, so every board can be solved by logic from your first tap. You can turn it off.

What sizes of board are there?

Beginner is 9 by 9 with 10 mines. Intermediate is 16 by 16 with 40. Expert is 30 by 16 with 99. Custom lets you pick your own size.
