Lights Out is a simple puzzle with a clever twist. You have a 5 by 5 grid of lamps. Tap one and it flips, and so do the lamps above, below, left and right of it.

Your goal is to turn every lamp off. There are 50 levels, starting with a single tap and growing slowly harder. Each level has a par, the fewest taps that will do it.

How to play

  1. Open the game and start at level 1. Each level opens after the one before it.
  2. Tap a lamp. It flips, and so do its neighbors above, below, left and right. At an edge or a corner there are fewer neighbors.
  3. Lamps that are on glow amber. Turn every lamp off to win the level.
  4. Tap Hint to see a glowing next tap on a shortest route. Undo takes a tap back, and Restart starts the level again.
  5. You earn up to three stars. Match par with no hint for three. Finish within four taps of par for two. Anything more is one star.
  6. On a keyboard, the arrows move, Space or Enter taps, U undoes, H gives a hint and R restarts.

Is Lights Out free, and do I need to download anything?

Can I play on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap a lamp to flip it. On a computer, click, or use the arrow keys with Space.

Can I get stuck or lose?

No. Every level can be solved. If you take extra taps, you just earn fewer stars. Use Undo or Restart whenever you like.

What is par?

Par is the fewest taps that will solve the level. Level 1 is par 1, and the later levels need more taps. The levels open one at a time, and your best stars are kept.
