Questions
How do I work out a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percent, then divide by 100. 20% of 85 is 20 × 85 ÷ 100 = 17.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. 17 out of 85 is 17 ÷ 85 × 100 = 20%.
How is percent change worked out?
Take the old value from the new one, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100 is (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% more.
Is the sales tax added before or after the discount?
After. The tax is worked out on the sale price, the way most US stores ring it up. The answers are arithmetic, not tax or financial advice.
