Questions
How do I type a mixed number?
Put a space between the whole number and the fraction: 2 3/4. A minus sign goes in front: -1 1/2. Whole numbers and decimals like 0.25 work too.
How do you add fractions with different denominators?
Find a common denominator, the smallest number both bottoms divide into, rewrite both fractions over it, then add the tops. The steps show each of these.
How do you divide fractions?
Flip the second fraction upside down and multiply: 3/4 ÷ 1/8 = 3/4 × 8/1 = 24/4 = 6.
Is the answer always simplified?
Yes. Top and bottom are divided by their greatest common factor, and the answer is written as a mixed number when it is more than one whole.
