Questions
What counts as a character?
Each letter, digit, space, punctuation mark and line break counts as one. An emoji, a flag or a letter with an accent counts as one too, because that is how it looks.
Why does a text message say 70?
Phones send plain letters and digits 160 to a text. One emoji or another special character switches the whole message to a code that fits 70, and most emoji take 2 of those. Longer messages go as several texts joined together.
Does X count the same way?
Mostly. X counts each emoji and each Chinese, Japanese or Korean character as 2, and any link as 23, so leave room if your post has them.
Is my text kept private?
Your text stays in this browser on this device. It goes into a link only if you tap Share, and then the message says so.
