Real chess against a thinking engine. A free board game from Corollary’s starter collection that plays right here in your browser, with nothing to download.
You are white, at the bottom of the board, and the engine plays black. Win by trapping its king so it cannot escape - that is checkmate. Arrows walk the blue cursor around the board, and it wraps at every edge. A picks up the piece under the cursor: its legal squares light up green, and any square where you can capture gets a red ring. Walk the cursor to one of those squares and press A again to move there. A on the same piece again, or B, puts it back down. An illegal square just shakes and nothing moves, so you cannot make a wrong move by accident. You can also tap a square instead of using the pad. Everything is here: castling (pick up the king and put it two squares along, the rook comes with it), en passant, check, stalemate, the fifty-move rule and the three-times-repeated-position rule. A pawn that reaches the far end always becomes a queen - there is no menu to fiddle with. The score pays ten for every point of material you capture, takes five back for every point you lose, and adds one hundred for a win or twenty-five for a draw. When the game ends, press A for a new one.
On a phone or tablet, use the arrows and the A and B buttons under the game. On a computer, use the arrow keys and the A and B keys.
